Sonic Calligraphy is the colorful program of Chinese American jazz singer Peggy Chew and Swiss musicians, pianist Adrian Frey and Willy Kotoun on percussion.
Together they create a hypnotic and unique cross-cultural blend of music. Modern jazz concepts meet Asian sensibilities through folk melodies from China, poetry from the Tang dynasty, jazz standards from Wayne Shorter and other composers as well as original songs from the pianist sung with the singer’s lyrics
Besides playing throughout Switzerland, Sonic Calligraphy has performed in several successful international tours:
2002, 2007, 2009 in China (Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong etc.)
2004 in the USA (San Francisco, Berkeley, New York,etc.) Further international appearances in the USA (2003, 2006)
and in Brazil (2007).
Most recently the trio was augmented with the two wonderful chinese musicians Coco Zhao (vocals, Shanghai) and Wu Na (gu qin, Beijing) with tours in Switzerland and China.
